In recent years, environmental accidents have frequently occurred in rivers and other water bodies. Pollution accidents such as nitrobenzene in the Songhua River, aniline in Changzhi, and phenol in Xin'anjiang have seriously threatened the safety of water bodies. According to experts, these organic substances are more difficult to degrade in the environment than volatile organic compounds (such as benzene and formaldehyde), exist for longer periods of time, and are easily absorbed by particulate matter. They are called semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs). There are many types of them, more than 50 kinds, mainly from some organic emissions around the water source, such as plastics, insecticides, combustion products, material additives (plasticizers, flame retardants) and so on. The content of SVOCs in water is extremely low, and the national detection standard is about 0.01 mg/l, which is equivalent to dropping a drop of ink in a swimming pool. The physiological toxicology of this "invisible pollutant" is very significant. If it is exposed for a long time, it will seriously harm human health.
It is very difficult to capture "invisible pollutants" in water. At present, China can only use laboratory testing methods. It takes 3 or 4 days to detect the results from the extraction of water samples to laboratory tests. At present, there are no rapid and comprehensive testing instruments in the world.
To this end, the national environmental protection agency has listed "automatic semi-volatile organic material monitoring instruments" as a major scientific instrument development project. After the expert group's demonstration and selection, Wuhan Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. jointly with the China National Environmental Monitoring Center, the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units "wins the mark" and independently developed. It is reported that the company has independently developed more than 50 automatic water quality monitoring instruments.
At present, the entire R&D work has been fully started. According to the plan, the research team will use a number of international cutting-edge technologies to build a new set of testing equipment. It is expected to achieve mass production by 2020. This product will be the first time to realize on-site online and rapid detection of SVOCs in water. It can detect 24 kinds of “invisible pollutants†in 30 minutes at a time. It is like a “mirror mirror†that makes hidden contaminants in water visible and caught. According to industry sources, this product can make up for the time-consuming, labor-intensive and solvent-intensive use of traditional processing methods. It can better separate and detect organic substances in water and greatly improve the ability to cope with sudden water environmental accidents and daily monitoring of water quality.

ã€China Instrument Network Instrument Development】 If a river accident occurs, using a new type of portable inspection instrument, it can detect various organic substances “hidden†in the water within 30 minutes, providing a basis for rapid and safe disposal. According to the Wuhan Environmental Protection Science and Technology Department in Hubei Province, this type of instrument that fills the gaps in China and is leading internationally is being developed in Wuhan. The current research and development work has been fully started, and it is expected to achieve mass production by 2020.
