In the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Surface Chemistry, a report was published that researchers have discovered a new technology that can more effectively separate gold , silver , copper and other valuable materials from rocks and ores. That is to use nanoparticles to hold these materials and attach them to the bubbles in the flotation machine. According to Robert Hamilton, who quite explain, every year his company uses a technique called froth flotation to process about  450 million tons of mine waste rock. This process involves pulverizing the mine waste rock into small particles which are then floated in water to separate commercially valuable particles from the waste rock. The " floating agent " in the water can adhere to the precious metal particles, causing them to repel the water and rise to the bubbling water surface, so that it can be easily removed. Researchers have demonstrated this new flotation agent technology consisting of water-repellent nanoparticles in the publication. In laboratory experiments, glass beads were used to simulate real mineral particles, and they proved that the nanoparticles were so firmly attached to the glass beads that the flotation yielded nearly 100% recovery.
