Ishihara Sangyo was founded in 1921 and formerly known as Nanyang Mining Company. In 1929, it was renamed as Ishihara Industrial Shipping Co., Ltd., and changed its current name in 1943. In 1954, the company introduced the production technology of sulfuric acid titanium dioxide from the United States Gryden Company. In 1955, the sulfuric acid rutile pigment R-820 was launched and introduced to overseas markets. In 1968, the company announced that it had built its own chlorination titanium white production technology, but it failed because of the technology. So I decided to introduce the AP & CC method of chlorination technology from the United States Kemeiji Chemical Company.
In 1973, a new 12,000-ton/year chlorination plant was put into operation. In 1988, the production capacity of Ishihara's chlorination plant in Yokkaichi, Japan, tripled to 38,000 tons per year.
After digesting and absorbing the technology introduced abroad, the company went abroad to build factories overseas. Earlier, a titanium dioxide post-treatment plant was built in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and the semi-finished products came from the factory in Yokkaichi, Japan. In 1990, the processing capacity of titanium dioxide in the Kaohsiung plant reached 27,000 tons/year, of which rutile was 18,000 tons/year and anatase was 0.9 million tons/year.
Since the mid-1980s, the company has invested US$94 million to build a large-scale chlorination plant in Singapore with a capacity of 36,000 tons/year. It was officially put into operation in April 1989. The company also plans to expand the production capacity of the Singapore plant to 72,000 tons / year. In order to supply raw materials for the chlorination plant, the company has also established a 100,000 tonne/year synthetic rutile production plant in Australia with a joint venture with the British Tioxide Group.
The company's 1988 titanium dioxide production capacity is 130,000 tons / year (sulfuric acid method 92,000 tons / year, chlorination method 38,000 tons / year, both in Japan Yokkaichi), is the world's sixth largest titanium dioxide production company, As shown in the table.

At present, the company's sulfuric acid and chlorination process capacity is 200,000 tons / year. The company's titanium dioxide is registered under the trademark “Tipaque”. The company's A-100 anatase titanium dioxide and R-930, CR60-2, CR90 and R-980 rutile titanium dioxide are widely used in China and have a high reputation.
